Verse to Meditate on....

With School starting I Love to go through and pick out verses that will be help for my children. I thought I'd share these verses, when we home schooled these verses were the first ones to learn each yr.

Ephesians 4:32
"Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."
As parents, teachers and children we all need:
1. To be kind - kindness should always be a part of our every day way of life.
2. Tenderhearted - if you notice a fellow class mate or co-worker having a rough day be tenderhearted with them.
3. Forgiving - if someone does wrong towards you, forgive them! After all Christ forgave and forgives all we do wrong!
Maybe just maybe you'll be considered more Christ like if you do these 3 things.

II Timothy 2:15
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
1. Study! As teachers and students we need to study! As the teacher if you don't know your materials you won't do as well. As the student if you don't apply yourself and study it's more difficult to pass.
2. Work - work hard where your not ashamed of your grades.

I Corinthians 14:40
"Let all things be done decently and in order"
As a former home schooler I would have this posted in the front of the classroom and typed out then taped to their desk.
1. If your desk is in order things are alot easier get to.
2. If we do things decently and order imagine how much better our classes, day, wks, months even our year will go!

Ephesians 5:2
"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour."
1. Love - we should love one another! Hate is NOT of God, if we hate someone we can't love.
2. If we love as Christ loved us just think how much better it will be. Be Christ like and love as Christ loves us!

Why Teachers Fail

This is from Teacher Orientation, and our Preacher came up before lunch and spoke on this topic. I thought since many are home school parents and teachers that I would share this with you. Unfortunately I didn't get all the points, but I will get the rest tomorrow.

Why Teachers Fail Heb 5:12
1. Teachers fail because they aren't willing to change.
2. Teachers fail because they wont' take correction Prov 9:8
3. Teachers fail because they don't personally know the material II Tim 2:15
4. Teachers fail because they don't have a walk with God - Be Christ Like!
5. Teachers fail because they are not organized - Isaiah 28:10
Be readable by your students, they do know you.
6. Teachers fail because they lead and respond by emotion not by principle. Jeremiah 17:9
7. Teachers fail because they don't review the material immediately before teaching.
8. Teachers fail because they won't put a fresh coat of paint on an old lesson.

(I'll get 9-12 tomorrow)

Just a few thoughts as you prepare to teach your children or someone elses children. Are you going to fail or succeed??

....strength is made perfect in my weakness....

II Corinthians 12:19 "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

What a wonderful thought that our strength is made perfect in weakness. The Lord gives us the perfect strength that we need in our time of weakness! I started this week in a "weak" way. I had been ill for several days and had to go to work anyway. It didn't really matter that I had been sick I had a responsibility.
Through the strength of the Lord and praying for strength I made it through and although I was very tired had a good day!
Job 12:3 "With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding."
1. With God is wisdom and strength.
2. With man you can receive wisdom, but we should gain our wisdom mainly through God. Now God uses, Pastors, teachers, laymen to teach us wisdom and then we gain it by going to God's word. We also gain our strength through God's word and studying God's word!

Ps 27:1b "....the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
1. Whom do you depend on for your daily strength? If we try to go in our own we won't make it.
2. But if we claim this verse Ps 27:1b and Phil 4:13 we can make it!!

Ps 84:5 "Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee: in whose heart are the ways of them."
1. Wow! what an awesome thought that we are blessed by having our strength in the Lord.
2. It is a very wise thing to depend on God for our strength.

Perfect- "There is none righteousness (perfect) no not one."
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be perfect?? Just think in Heaven we will be perfect! WOW Wouldn't it be wonderful to not have to worry of hurting another, saying something wrong, so on and so forth? However, since we don't live in a perfect world we can work towards that!

Deuteronomy 18:13 "Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God"
Ps 19:7 "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple."

In God's eyes we are perfect! You say how is that well I love this song that says it perfectly!

"What sins are you talking about?"
That is what Jesus says, when we ask for his forgiveness! He sees us a perfect white peace of paper never marked or scuffed. We are perfect.....so he says, "What sins are you talking about?"

James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh from the Father of lights...."
Salvation is the perfect gift! Once we realize we need Christ there is no better gift than the Perfect Gift of Salvation!!!

Psalms 23

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Psalms 23 this is such a wonderful passage it's even a comfort to read in trials or tribulations.

Psalm 23
1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
You know the Lord will guide us and lead us through life. Even when we don't want him to lead he's there.

2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of rightesousness for his name's sake.
It's a wonderful thing to know that when we're down the Lord leads us to green pastures (His Word) which feeds and refreshes us. Through that it restores our soul to what it needs to be.

4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou are with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
I thought of this verse yesterday as I prayed for the families in Gaylord MI. The wife who's expecting her first, lost her husband. The parents who although they have 4 other children lost 2 sons! The family who doesn't know if their son will live or die. They don't even know how severe his injuries are and if he lives how he'll be. You know though, these families walk through the valley right now, God will bring them to the Mountain top! They have no need to fear for God is with them. What an awesome thought!

5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
The devil may attack us in our day to day lives, but the Lord is already prepared for our enemies. If we serve the Lord and do as he wants we can be assured that our enemies will try to attack. I honestly believe Grace Baptist church and the families there are going to see great and mighty things come from this accident. However they're will probably be attacks also. We can look to Jesus though and be assured that he is with us and our cups will over run with joy.

6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Isn't it wonderful that the Lords goodness and mercy are with us ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE?! When we finish our life here on earth we will DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOR EVER!!

PS 23 is full of so many promises, helps and encouragement. This is one of many things that the Lord has shown me in this chapter!
1. The Lord is my shepherd!
2. He knows what we need, place of rest, water to drink, restores out soul to serve him and he's our Salvation!
3. He goes before us and we have no need of fear even in the valley!
4. Again, he goes before us and prepares for the enemy.
5. He shows each of us his goodness and kindness and has a home for us in Heaven!

What wonderful thoughts!!!
Thank You Lord for this chapter that is so full of LOVE, LEADERSHIP, GUIDANCE and so much more!!

Honoring Our Parents, Grandparents......

Dad and Mom Seavey (50th Wedding Anniversary!) Picture of my folks coming soon.
This is my Grandpa Russ and me :) wasn't I cute???? :D My mom called me today telling me that it's been 37 yrs, Aug 2nd, since her Daddy went to Heaven!!! He was 87 when he died, the unique thing about my Grandpa is he was born on Aug 2, 1887 at 1 in the afternoon, he went to Heaven on Aug 2, 1974 at 1:05 pm. Grandpa loved his children all 14 of them!!! He enjoyed each of his grandchildren and even great grandchildren also. My fondest memory of Grandpa was when I was 6 and 7 I would come in from playing out doors and he would say, "Little Man (this is what he called ALL his grandchildren) you have a speck of dirt on your cheek or face" I'd run in and wash my face and hands. I absolutely didn't like to be dirty. Then he would ALWAYS share is Coke Cola with me. No matter when it was and if he thought we, the grandchildren, should have a cookie, then we got a cookie! Grandpa was also the ONLY man I knew for the first yr-1/2 of my life. My daddy was in the Air Force and he was stationed in the Philippine Islands, so when I was born he wasn't there. But I LOVE my daddy very much!!

I have watched my mom and all her sisters and brothers honor their Dad when I was little as well as since his home going. When I was old enough to understand I decided that I was going to honor my dad and mom all their life!!

Ephesians 6:2 "Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."
This isn't exactly a devotional, but when my mom called and reminded me of my Grandpa this came to mind. So, if you've not spoke with your folks in a while maybe a call is something they need. Remember we can honor them more than just once a yr on Mothers Day, Fathers Day even Grandparents day.
The Bible teaches we are to Honour our father and mother. It's a commandment not a if you want to honour them, but a command that we are to do this. As my mom and her siblings that are still living do, they remember their folks even now that their dad is heaven.
Teach your children to honor their grandparents, I believe one reason our children should be taught to honor Grandma and Grandpa, is if wasn't for them we wouldn't be here. Without mom and dad our children wouldn't be here so we all need to honor both!!!

Character Traits (Committed)

I was going through some things and came a cross a list of Character Traits that at one time I was working on devotionals for them. I had not finished any one character trait and best as I can figure it was because of our travels and if I was asked to teach a SS class or speak at a ladies mtg, I would stop that and work on something else.

Any way all that to say, I thought I would pick this back up and periodically post various Character Traits. Todays is Committed.
Committed - Te devote or pledge (oneself) to the doing of something.
What are we committed to?
Church
Prayer
Bible Reading
Marriage
Relationships
Work
Play
Family
The Lord
I didn't listen these in any particular order, here I'm just throwing out some things we may be committed to.

Following are some Bible verse on commitment
1. Psalm 31:5 "Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou has redeemed me, O Lord God of truth."
Have you committed your spirit to the Lord. After all he was the one who saved you and gave you a life worth living!
2. Psalm 37:5 "Commit thy way unto the Lord: trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."
3. II Corinthians 5:19 "To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation."
Christ, committed to forgive us our sins. Now he didn't have to do that, but He chose to and because of his choice we are forgiven. The least we as Christians can is commit to obey him by doing what he commands us to do. Don't be afraid to be a committed Christian.
4. II Timothy 2:2 "And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."
As Parents, teachers, SS teachers ect. we should be committed to our children (class). They depend on us to be faithful and to bring them what they need. Be a committed teacher, parent or whatever you do.
5.Job 5:8 "I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:"
This one can go back to yesterdays lesson on "What is your Cause?" as well as today, are we committed. We really should commit fully to our Lord and the work he has set before us. We go about doing things half heartily we're not fully committed.
What in your life are you doing but not fully committed?

Again, for those with children starting school, encourage them to fully commit their whole heart in ALL they Do this school year!

What's Your Cause?

I Samuel 17:29 "And David said, What I now done? Is there not a cause?

What is your cause?
A cause is a purpose plus a little something extra!
What makes you go a little further?

What is your cause in your Christian life?? Do you do just minimal? OR Do you go a little further for the cause?
I asked my kids what their cause was and without giving their names this is what I got:
1. my cause is to graduate
2. my cause is to pass my my classes
3. my cause is to play hard
4. My cause is to see people saved on my bus route
5. my cause is to grow more in walk with Jesus
6. my cause is become a better prayer warrior
7. my cause is to love Jesus more
8. my cause is to win in the baseball championship game
9. my cause is to obey mommy so I don't get spanked
10. my cause is to follow God and do what his will is

All of these are from my children ages 10 to 17 I'm sure some of them you can tell it was a younger child, but they have a cause for their life.

What is your Cause??
Here are a few things that should be our cause:
1. Growing in God's Words
2. Prayer Warrior
3. Soul-winner
4. Doing your best in your ministry
5. To please God in all we do and say. To have a sweet attitude about what we do. The right kind of heart to better serve our Lord.
This is just a few but I'm sure as we think about our cause you could come up with much more.

vr 37 David said moreover, The Lord hath delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with you.
David knew his cause! He obeyed the Lord and was delivered. He went and did what the Lord wanted for a cause.

Applying this to those starting school....
What is your cause for school? To goof off and stay in trouble, to do your work to just get by, OR To obey your teachers/parents, do your work to the best of ability doing your best for a cause! What is this cause when you think of school, it's to pass your classes and to cont on through school.

So I ask you what is your cause?

Proverbs 4: 1-5, 13

"1. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2. For I give you good doctrine forsake ye not my law.
3. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments and live.
5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not: neither decline from the words of my mouth.

13. Take fast hold of instruction: let her not ; keep her; for she is thy life.

I was reading this today when I heard a LOUD crash in the kitchen! I'm thinking OH NO!! I go in and see my whole Lighthouse dinner setting busted on the floor! Samuel is crying, Jason is standing there just staring like he's not sure what to do!

Naturally I wanted to pitch a fit, cause they had done something I had told them not to do, but I had to first find out if everyone was ok. . I'm going to apply this in away that I hope it will be a blessing or help to someone.

1. I can praise God that neither of my boys were hurt. Am I upset I lost an 8 place setting? yes, but more importantly my boys weren't cut or hurt.
2. Would shouting at them accomplish anything? No, but they learned a lesson an gained wisdom from it. They learned that you have to do things in a certain order. As the Bible says, Do things decently and in order. They were doing the decently and they were partially following instruction, but the part they didn't do resulted in a mess.
3. Did they disobey? Yes, they had done something they were told not to do, however they learned a lesson. Why can't I, we, forgive when something not so pleasant happens. I'm sad my about my plates, but more pleased with the fact they learned a lesson and they are sorry for what they did.

Pr 5:1-2 "My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
That thou mayest regard discretion. and that thy lips may keep knowledge."

After we, they, got everything cleaned up and I told them calmly how they were to do the job they listened and understood why the first way was not good but gained a little wisdom in how to do the job completely right.
I must say I'm very pleased with my boys and that they took the disciple and correction well.

School

Well, as much as we may not like it or as much as we do, it's school time again :)
I was going through stuff looking to see what needed to be purchased for the new school year and trying to figure out things. When I came across this in one of my kids notebooks from last year.

II Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a woman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
S-don't study and be stupid (So I'll do all my work and study)
T-be a time waster or Use your time wisely with your studies (I will use my time wisely)
U-U forget things--U fail! (I don't want to be the U who fails)
D-determination or dumbness your choice (hum.....no not really I want determination and pass)-
Y-don't ask why just do the y and you'll pass Algebra :D

As I read this I though WOW!! There are some good points there! This was written by one of my teens who doesn't really care for school but put his whole being into learning and making sure he passed his classes.

When we read our Bible do we read it to barely make it or do we do as my son and go for all it's worth. Now I know the y won't help us much as far as how he applied it to Algebra, but he has some good points there.
S-Study! Learn God's word know it inside and out. Meditate on God's word day and night!
T-do you waste time or do you use your time wisely, you know you could have a time that maybe you watch an hour TV show, you could read your Bible, maybe to much time on the Internet...You know I sat down one day and timed myself on how long I was on the computer. When I sat down, I thought I'm going to check e-mail, go to my blog (at the time only 1) and get off. Do you realize I was on the computer for 2 hours!!! Was that a waste of time? YES!!! So I decided from then on I would set a timer. I have much to do and can't sit at my desk that long doing just Internet. Since then with the exception of my devotional blog I never go on more than 30 min at a time unless I plan it!!!
U-Don't be a person who forgets. U can make list, have a schedule and DON"T be the "U" people look at and say, he/she is forgetful.
D-Determination! WOW........I have seen so much determination in my boys that it's convicted about being determined! My 4 boys have dyslexia some more severe than others. Well, my 15 yr old couldn't read well as a 7th grader but he took and went from Failing ALL his classes the first semester to failing ONLY ONE at the end of the yr. Last yr, his 8th gr year, he didn't make below a C on ANYTHING!!! That's determination. Did I have to help him? YES! But HE DID THE WORK....DETERMINATION!!!! We should be that way with our ministry, our Bible and Prayer life Determine to GROW in the LORD!!!!
Y-well, I had a hard time thinking of something as did my son, but you know rather than asking WHY? Just do! My youngest boy will say Why do we have to do this? I simply answer, Did mom/dad say you had to? Yes, then that's why? Now I don't always answer that way, I will if needed give him the why because it will help him understand better why we do what we do. But, when he ask why do I have to do the dishes now.....that's a different story.
God tells us to witness, to be labors for him. Don't ask WHY just do it.
Maybe if we "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" We would be better in ALL we do.....
1. Study as we should - you don't have to go to school to study
2. Be a good workman - do right and work your best in ALL things.
3. Keeping the word truth

Just a thought with school starting up here in a few wks. I pray even as parents we help our children to do what we know is right. Remember, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

A Yo-Yo life......

Do you ever feel your life is on a Yo-Yo?? Like no matter what you can't get a grasp on life. The Bible has the answer on how you can take the Yo-Yo and turn it into a road of sweet rest. This actually came to being, after I had talked with a friend, she asked if dealing with somethings we're having to deal with right now made me feel like a Yo-Yo. Up and down, up and down, up and down one day it's up, the next day it's down......This set me to thinking about it. We can have a yo-yo of a life or we can have a peaceful quiet road of sweet rest.

Unsaved people will many times feel they are on a yo-yo. Why? It's harder to have peace about things when you don't have Jesus to guide you day by day. The Bible tells in Proverbs, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.

My question to you friend is Do you want to live your life as a yo-yo? Wouldn't it better know 100% for sure that you are on your way to heaven and that life can smooth (now don't get me wrong, even Christians have bumps in the road) with Christ though we have no need to stay on the string of the yo-yo going no place!

I want to share with you a few verses:
Romans 3:10
"As it is written there is none righteous, no, not one."
This simply means none of us are perfect! We're going to try and make it on our own ending up on the yo-yo way.

Romans 3:23
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
We're all sinners, we make mistakes but guess what?! It doesn't end here.

Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
There is a payment for that sin, If we want to pay for it ourselves it's death and hell. However there's a free gift that you can have. That's the gift of God!

Romans 5:8
"But God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
You know God loved us so much he gave his only son! WOW how many of us love someone so much we would sacrifice our only son for them?? God did and that is why we have the free gift of salvation.

Romans 10:13
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Did you know that whosoever is You, Me, the person down the street ANYONE?! This takes me to July 25th, I was in DC with my church and the last house I stopped at was a Chinese man (deaf) He accepted this free gift through me sharing with him in sign language that WHOSOEVER believeth on Jesus CAN be saved! Jillian accepted Christ and he was excited that he was going to heaven.

He now doesn't have to live the life of a yo-yo not knowing if he's up or down, but he now has Jesus in his life and can live a life of sweet rest. Yes, he'll still sin, Yes, he'll still have things pop up in his life BUT he has Jesus to lean on!!

Leaning, Leaning, Safe and secure from all alarms, Leaning, Leaning, on the everlasting arms! Who's arms? Jesus!

Now, do I, did I feel like a yo-yo with this one situation YES!! BUT, I have Jesus to care for that situation and although my heart says one thing, my mind says another, the leader I'm talking with says another......We will have a road of sweet rest in the end. Why we KNOW Jesus as our personal Saviour and we KNOW he will take care of all the burdens and hard times that are ahead of us.

I know today's lesson is more for the unsaved, but to my friends who already know our wonderful Saviour and serve him daily. What little "Yo-Yo" in your life is causing you to not depend on God? What "yo-yo" is making the bump in the road worse that what it needs to be?

Turn that "yo-yo" over to Christ and he'll carry the burden for you.

Please let me know if you accept Jesus into your heart.

Jeremiah 33:3

Jer 33:3
"Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

Today has been spent a lot praying and asking for a few things. We've had some changes, in just 24 hours take place and it's going to prove interesting over the next few wks especially with school starting up in less than 3 wks.

We've not had an answer to our prayers yet, but the Bible clearly states "Call unto me, and I will answer thee...." as my children an I were talking early, one of them said, "mom, doesn't the Bible say, "Ye have not because ye ask not"? This was when we were discussing the cuts coming and changes that will take place between now and Sept 1st.

We are in anticipation waiting to see how God will fulfill this need we have. Another verse we looked to was "But my God shall supply all thy need, according to his riches in glory...."

If you have a need, a desire, an urgent matter, simply take it to the Lord. He wants us to bring our burdens to him and to let him carry the load. I don't know that this is much of a devotional but I thought maybe someone needed a reminder that God is in control no matter your situation. And as Jeremiah says, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and might things, which thou knowest not." It's not always easy to say, here you go Lord. You know what though, it sure makes life easier when you do.

My God is Near

Psalm 139: 1-12
"O Lord, thou has searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path, and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.
Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou are there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee."

Do you have days where it seems God is far off? Where no matter how hard you try he's just not there? I was looking for a song that a friend is needing and came across this song which was based on the above the scripture

MY GOD IS NEAR

vr 1 Make me know your presence, Lord the King of glory here. You know each tho't and action, hope, anxiety and fear. How can I hide from Thee? Can darkness hide iniquity? OH, how can I unfaithful be, when You are very near to me?

Vr 2 Make me know Your presence, Lord, when I feel so alone. You know each trial and testing, pain, the hurt that is "unknown." Oh, why can I not see Your hand so firmly guiding me? Oh, how can I untrusting be, when You are near to me?

Chorus: When God is near, all the world seems far away. When God is near, every fear is set aside. When God is near, how can I stray, how can I falter? I'll stay upon the altar. I know my God is near!

After reading the scripture and reading the song, it simply made it so clear that although we don't feel God is near, or feel he cares. HE DOES!!! I have not doubted his care, but I tell you such as yesterday I was wondering where is God, why can't get peace about this school situation. This morning once reading the scriptures and seeing this song I may not feel 100% "good" about the situation, but I know not only will God be with me he'll be with my children!

Isn't God Good?!?! GOD IS NEAR!!!!

Do People Run the other way.......

"Do People Run the Other Way When They See You Coming?"

II Corinthians 2:1-3
"But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

For it I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice: having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all."

A few days ago, I was at the grocery store and saw several people I knew most of which I was more than delighted to speak to. However do you ever see someone and think OH NO! You don't ask how they are or you get a 30 min "lecture" on how horrible the day is.

Well, as I was reading in II Corinthians and came across this passage this topic came to mind. To share a burden or prayer request is wonderful especially when you know the person will help you pray. However if you are just griping and complaining making the person sorry they are talking with you then it's not good.

When I think of people I love to see they are ones such as Margaret, (my sis) she can make you laugh no matter how you are feeling or how rough your day may be. I think of Jennie (a very dear friend) who's always so encouraging and seems to always have a smile on her face. There's Bro Nash who can take anything and make it a joke. There's Bro Bush (my boss) who has a way of making your day so much brighter.

I'll not name them but just as I've listed these people who are joy to see there are those when I see them it's OH NO! Now I consider myself a friendly person and I try to be positive no matter what. There are times though I want to look at the person and say, "let me tell you my problems!" Is that right? No, however when that's all you get from some people eventually you begin to think that way. This could go back to yesterdays post with Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Think about this: If every time we go to God in prayer all we do is complain do you think that makes him pleased. Now I know we're to carry ALL our burdens to the Lord don't' you think though that he would like to hear praises and thank yous from us. It's the same with friends we enjoy hearing the good and would rather not hear all the bad.

Like Margaret, Jennie, Bro Nash, Bro Bush it's a joy to see them, to talk with them, to receive letters. Lets be careful that when someone sees us coming down the street or sees our phone number on caller ID they don't run the other way.

So lets be careful, be positive, be an encourager, don't be critical and negative all the time.
....that my joy is the joy of you all.

Be Positive

As Christians we need to remember to keep our speech pleasing to God. We can get into such a routine of things that when we are at church without meaning to or even wanting to we "gossip".

Philippians 4:8 is good reminder for us to keep our thoughts and speech in line
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Lets all make sure that our speech is true, honest, pure, lovely and of good report. Have you ever noticed how bad news spread so quickly? Let something good happen though what happens? A few people will learn of it but what if double the people that hear the bad heard the good. Imagine how much better things would be in our conversation.

Just a thought as we head off to church this morning. Look for the good, the positive, and the uplifting to speak of. Praise some one in their work this past wk. Praise the special music of the day. Don't be critical of what was sung or how it was sung, don't be critical of the sermon cause you didn't like point 3 and 5, find the good in what was preached and spread the good around.

Tell someone you appreciate them
Let others know what a wonderful person they are and how much they mean to you.
Send a letter of Praise to one who's having a rough day.
Thank the nursery worker for watching not only your little "angle" but the other children also so the service wasn't interrupted.
So many things we can do to be of good report rather than poor report.

Faith

Hebrews 11 The Faith Chapter is where we'll be today.
I did some research and did you know Faith occurs 247 times in the Bible. Seeing how many times the word Faith is mentioned must mean something pretty important!

Heb. 11 commonly known as the faith chapter is a wonderful chapter.
Vr 1- Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not see.

Faith is a noun
Read the Bible - learn the Biblical Hebrew about Faith
1. Allegiance to duty or a person
2. A belief & trust in and loyalty to God
3. Something that is believed in especially w/strong religious beliefs.

This is what Webster said about Faith, it actually said, "read the Bible!" WOW!!! If a dictionary has that you need to read the Bible in and God says we're to read our Bible I think maybe we should just have Faith in God and do as he says, after all we just might learn something. :)

We not have the trust and loyalty in God to do what he says in Faith that he'll guide and lead us to where and what we need to do.

I love how my husband Preaches on Faith. Even how he uses Faith in his soul-winning. I have watched him and listened to him and seen a person who at first was like NO I don't want to accept that totally change when he was done. I know it was the Holy Spirit working in the persons life, but I also believe because my husband went out on Faith that people would be saved that they were.

Faith is such a simple word but carries alot of "punch" so to speak. Through Faith we can understand the word of God. Through faith we believe there is God. We get on a plane to fly cross country and we have faith that the pilot whom many times we never see, will get us there safely.

Faith is leaving those you love and going to another country to serve God.
Faith is trusting in what we can't see.
Faith is:
vr 4 - By faith Able offered God a more excellent sacrifice....
vr 5 - By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death....
vr 7 - By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet....

~These are just a few samples of people living by Faith. Abel wasn't trying to out do his brother, he was just doing what God wanted and he although he didn't understand he did it By FAITH!
~Enoch as many of us don't want to die (we say we're sticking out till the Lord returns) but Enoch had to have Faith in God that he wouldn't see death.
~Noah by Faith had to trust God of the things he was warned. God through prayer, Bible reading, preaching, teaching warns us and we need through Faith trust him and heed his warnings.

vr 6 - Without faith it is impossible to please him....
I don't know about you, but I'd rather go ahead take the step on faith and please my Lord than to not go out, or do this or that, or heed the warning have have the Lord dis-pleased with me.

The story about to share was while we were on deputation. Some have ridiculed our change, but we know we started deputation on faith and we changed our destination on faith following what we honestly believe the Lord would have for us at this time of our lives. But I wanted to share this one story with you, we had to step out on faith or just sit still and we saw God bless!!

It was in March, I believe this happened in 2005, we needed to get from MO to IN. There was a small problem with this. We had just enough funds to fill our 80 gal tank on our RV and get about $10 worth of groceries. Well, we had a choice stay in MO missing our mtg in Indiana or step out in faith that God would get us there.
Flesh wise it was forget, but in our hearts we knew what we had to do so....
We filled the gas tank bought the groceries and headed to Hammond, IN, not even knowing if we would make it or not. See our 80 gal gas tank would take us about 400 miles we had over 500 miles to go!!!
We figured somewhere in IL we would run out and my husband already had planned what he would sell to be able to make the rest of the trip. We drove through night figuring about 2 in the morning is when we'd have to stop.
By Faith we did this and God blesses our faith. We arrived in Hammond at around 6 am and our needle was laying on E!! We had gone over 500 miles on 1 TANK OF GAS!!!! That RV had NEVER done that and it didn't do it again. Could it have made another 500 miles plus on one tank, I think so, but God choose to do just that once. Why? I believe and my husband and children believe that God blessed the fact we stepped out on faith and started this trip. I also believe that God knew 2 wks later my husband would need the tools he was going to sell to get us the rest of the way into Hammond.

Living by faith isn't always easy but it's something we need to do. Have faith that God will provide the rent money. Have faith that God will make that car payment. Have faith that God will pay the bills. Have faith that you'll have what you need to feed your family. JUST SIMPLY HAVE FAITH!

Faith really is a wonderful thing. I will be the first to admit it's not always easy to live by faith, but we need to.

"Living by faith in Jesus alone, trusting confiding in His sweet love. I'm living by faith and I fear no alarm. Living by faith in Jesus alone."

Are You Eating On The Run?

Devotional for 8/7

Ok, I know this sounds like a crazy title, I was listening to the radio the other morning on my way to run errands. Usually I don't do this because the local "Christian" station isn't that good. However, what caught my attention was the question, "Are you eating on the run?" and the person referred to Psalm 23.

Psalm 23
1. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I started reading through this passage looking to see what they were referring to "eating on the run" As read Ps 23 I started thinking....
1. What does a shepherd do? He leads us if we're always on the run how can he, God, leads us as he wants? Part of the leading is allowing Him to lead us peacefulness (green pastures and still waters)
If we don't take time to rest and "eat" study God's word He can't lead us in the direction He has for us.
2. By allowing the Lord to lead we can "eat" and our soul can be restored to "health".
If we don't eat properly not only physically but feeding on the word of God we can't be lead by our Shepherd, he can't lead us to green pastures and still waters which leads to the fact he can't restore our souls.
It's not only important that we we eat properly for our physical health, but we also need to eat properly to keep our spiritual health up.
3. By allowing our Shepherd to guide us, he protects us through life. We have no need of fear as long as we allow our Shepherd to feed us and not try "Eating on the Run!"
4. The Lord has already prepared a table for us. Are we going to be in such a hurry in the morning that we can't take time to "eat" before starting the day. If we would only stop for our daily bread the Lord has prepared the table before our enemies, he anoints us with oil and fills our cup to overflowing. Why? Because we've taken time to "eat" before starting our day. Are you eating on the run? OR are you taking time out of your day to fill up on God's Word.

I don't know if this is what the host on the radio station was referring to, but as I began to study this and ask the Lord to show me this is where I came too. Daily devotions are so very important for each of us.

Did you leave your room this morning forgetting to pray and study your Bible?
Did you allow the Lord to "feed" you or did you decide to "eat" on the run?

This is not only a devotional for others, but also for me. We all need to make sure we have our daily bread not only physically but spiritually!

PS 117

8/6/09 Devotional

....the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

According to Webster endureth means - to last; continue to be.
According to Wiktinonary endureth means - (archaic) third person singular form of to endure
Give thanks unto God for all things, for His mercy endureth for ever Psalms 136 (this was in the Wiktionary definition)

Endureth how many times do you think God endures our foolishness? The Bible even in the dictionary show us:
-the Lord endureth for ever.
-His mercy endureth for ever.

WOW!!! Imagine how much God loves us to continue (endure) us for ever! As parents, babysitters, teachers, bosses, leaders, even Pastors: "What do we endure?"

Yesterday was very hot, humid day. I wanted to stay inside in my nice cool, comfortable house! You say, "Well, why didn't you?" Because my boys had a baseball game so I endured the heat to sit for 2 hours at a baseball game. How many people do that go and go no matter the weather. We, I, endured the heat for 2 reasons: they are Jason and Samuel! Why Because I love them!
Now, don't you think the Lord endures our foolishness, selfishness, laziness all because He Love Us!! Same as I and others endure the heat to watch our sons play ball.

Another point - July 25th 2009
Our church had a big soul-winning day down in DC. Over 200 people went out in 90+ heat to serve the Lord and through soul-winning. The enduring of this heat was much more important than enduring the heat for a baseball game. There was people that went to DC in the heat that probably should NOT have gone. So, why did they go?
1. Our preacher had asked for everyone who could to go to DC on July 25th.
2. Souls of men are more important than staying home cause it's to hot.
3. Our Nation needs a Revival!!
You may ask but if people who had health problems shouldn't of been ask to go. Well, they choose to go, I went with a lady who really shouldn't of been out in the extreme heat, but the Lord allowed us to see 19 people saved between the 2 of us because we ENDURED the heat. I personally shouldn't of been in the heat, I was leery of going, BUT I went yes I had a headache at the end of the day. However that headache was well worth me enduring the heat to see a Deaf man from China saved, a 6 yr old little girl saved plus others!!
What the results of over 200 people enduring the heat for soul-winning in our Nations Capital:
1,639 Souls Saved and on their way to Heaven!!
If our Lord endureth forever.
If his mercy endureth forever.
Can't we as Christians, as Children of God endure the little things in life that makes our Lord pleased with us?

....the Truth of the Lord endureth for ever.

His word that we share with others endureth for ever!
God's word is FOR EVER!
God's love is FOR EVER!

PS 117 "O Praise the lord, all y nations: praise him, all ye people.
For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord.

PS 117 Lesson 1

PS 117 "Praise the Lord...."

Praise the Lord.... Do we praise the Lord as we should? Now I realize there are times we think, "Praise the Lord" why? I want to share something here with you that at first I was saying NO not now! Then later that day I was Praising the Lord!

This happened in Indiana when I had 3 little ones and was pregnant with our 4 child. Tabitha I believe was in 2nd grade, Paul IV was in K-5 and Caleb was still 3. We lived 30 min from our school, it was payday so as many of you know, on payday the cupboards are bare. As was the case this particular morning.

Well, I had everyone up, dressed and ready to leave for school this particular morning. We went out got everyone in the car, those in car seats who need to be in. I run up tot he door lock the house and jump in the van. Turn the key....nothing! OH NO......lets try again....Nothing! Well, my husband was already at work in the Loop, in Chicago. I wasn't real sure who to call, when a neighbour comes out. Well, I ask if they can help. He jump started the van, at this point we are late (not for school, but to get something to eat for the kids).

See I had planned to stop at this gas station about 1/2 way between home and the school to get the kids something to eat.

Did I want to Praise the Lord when this happened OH no. I was very frustrated, I couldn't send my oldest 2 off to school with no breakfast or anything. So, I thinking what can do, I don't want them late for school, but then NEED to eat. Well, we leave our home in North Hammond and head to school.

As I'm driving, we are approaching the gas station I would have stopped at. I see an ambulance, several Police cars and the property the gas station is on is tapped off with the yellow crime scene tape. Later that morning I learned the very time I would have been in the gas station with my 3 children and me pregnant there had been a shooting! Someone had been killed!

The point of this story is, we don't have to Praise the Lord for every little thing, but sometimes it's good to simply stop and:

Praise the Lord for that broken down vehicle, why? Maybe as what happened to us that school morning God is protecting you from something that could be 10 times worse than a van that won't start!

You know that could have been me who died leaving 3 little ones without a mom. It could have been one of my little ones shoot and a mother who lost a very dear and precious life to her. So when Praising the Lord just doesn't seem like something you want to do. Stop and think, "Are you protecting me Lord?" Praise the Lord for showing your ....merciful kindness.... to our family or friends today!

PS 117 "Praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.
For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord."

What will you choose to do next time something happens:
1. complain and get mad
2. Praise the Lord for his merciful kindness.

I'd love for you to share some Praises with us.

Proverbs 31 Lady

I was actually going to do a different passage this morning, but I felt this is what the Lord wanted me to put on this morning.
Some of you may of already read this from my other blog, but maybe there's one who needs this so here it is:

Proverbs 31:10-31

I have always loved Proverbs 31
vr 10 - Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
How priceless is that! Our virtue is to be above rubies!
vr 11 - The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
I can't imagine going thru my marriage and my husband not trusting me. Thank the Lord, my husband and I have trust each other.
vr 12 - She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
vr 13 - She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
To do around the house and work so that my husband is pleased is very comforting and pleasing to me. Are you one that is willing to work with your hands for your husband?
vr 14 - She is like the merchants ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
vr 15 - She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
Personally this is one I need to work on, I enjoy cooking and all, but it's one of my favorite things. I think as mothers and wives we all could work more on this.
vr 16 - She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
vr 17 - She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
I maybe wrong, but to me vr 17 is saying she exercises so that she has the strength as well as making sure she gets her needed rest.
vr 18 - She percieveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
This is where she available when needed no matter the hour. For her husband, children or anyone.
vr 19 - She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
vr 20 - She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
I've always looked at this verse as a ministry, whether to those who attend your church and need help, people you help thru a ministry in your church or just people you see in your daily life. IF you can be of assistant to them you reach out to help the poor and needy.
vr 21 - She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
vr 22 - She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
vr 23 - Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Is your husband know because of ALL the postive your say about him or all the negative?
vr 24 - She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
vr 25 - Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
vr 26 - She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
My prayer is that I am always kind in what I say!
vr 27 - She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Lets not be idle, if your children see that you are idle more times than not, then how will you teach them that idleness is wrong.
vr 28 - Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Do your children call you blessed? Does your husband praise you for what you do?
vr 29 - Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
vr 30 - Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
vr 31 - Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

What kind of woman are you?

This is such an awesome passage for wives, mothers and young ladies to be wives and mothers!

Isaiah 40:31

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they mount up with wings as eagles...."
When my husband was in Alaska several yrs ago he was watching the Eagles as they flew up high in the sky. It was a windy day, and all the other little birds were struggling just to get off the ground.
As Bill was telling about this, he said he thought of Isaiah 40:31 and how the eagle mounts up and lets the wind carry them. Just as we should let the Lord carry us in his strength, the Eagle lets the strength of the wind lift him up.
Do we depend on the strength of the Lord or our own? Are we as an Eagle who depends on the strength of the wind?
