Proverbs 14 Lesson 2

Welcome to God's Amazing Grace! I hope you enjoy it and that most importantly that you receive a blessing from what the Lord has laid on my heart. Thank you, for stopping by.

I wasn't wanting to go this long between Lessons but I believe the Lord has a reason and a purpose for what happens and when. It's been longer than anticipated but during that time I have been watching and keeping up with Hurricane Florence, one of my children has been sick and I've been waiting for results. God has answered many prayers but this blog post isn't about prayer or my personal health it's about that wonderful contrasting conjunction, BUT.

Proverbs 14:2 "He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him."

Do you walk in righteousness or do you despise the things that God would have you do? As you grow in the Lord are you looking for knowledge and wanting to glean what you can from the Bible and God's man. Or do you despise the way you were taught, raised, or trained.

Proverbs 28:6 "Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich."
vr 18 "Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once."

righteous - means, "observing divine laws, keeping the commands of God; a way of thinking, feeling and acting that is conformed to the will of God."

perverse -   Contrary to what is right or good; wicked or depraved: a perverse world of sinners

Upon looking at these two definitions and reading the scripture - we should want to be righteous and not perverse. We should want to obey and keep Gods commands, but because we are human we have a tendency to not want to do what is right. As we continue to study this chapter, we need to keep in mind that studying Gods word helps us in so many areas.

So as you go through this week before you make a decision ask yourself: Is this in keeping what God wants? Or am I doing what I want and being contrary to God's word? Remember that contrasting conjunction, BUT, it can mean the difference between right and wrong.

Proverbs 14 Lesson I

"But" - a contrasting conjunction.

No this isn't an English lesson. haha Rather it's a lesson on the contrasting that takes place in Proverbs 14. Have you read chapter 14 realizing how many times "But" is in the chapter. I'm not planning to cover every verse with the contrasting conjunction, but, however I will touch on many of them. Rather than doing it all in one blog insert I'm going to do it in several many.

Proverbs 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

When I started reading last month on my daily Proverb is when this chapter really caught my attention. "Every wise woman buildeth her house...." Are you being a builder at home"? "Are you the keeper of home"? Ladies, we are to be the Holy Spirit of the home. What we say, where we go, how we dress, our attitude, our speech, the way we keep house, all these things can build or destroy a home. What are you doing to build your home?

Some of what we should be doing is praising our husband, praising our children, keeping our home clean, being the wife and mother God intended us to be. Most importantly though in order to do and be these things, YOU must be saved, study Gods word and pray. Now we are all human, myself included, and we fail! There will be those days you don't build up your house. Be wise in what you do, shopping, cleaning, cooking.

Lets look at Ruth 4:11 "And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Beth-lehem": Ruth built her house and it was seen how she did and the people recognized it as a good thing. When people come to your home, do they see a house that the woman of the house has buildeth or do they see a house that has been destroyed?

Which brings me to the contrast of this verse, "...but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands." What exactly is this contrast referring to? It's talking about you criticizing your husband, complaining about everything and everyone in your home, never having things done and so much more. What area are you plucking your house down? Proverbs 31 is a lady who does the wise things and she is praised in the gate, in Ruth 4, there are witnesses that build her up. We need to make sure that our name is not destroyed, maiden or married name. A good name is rather to be chosen….

Are you building up your house make the ___________ and your name one to be known in a good way? Or are you the contrast, BUT, and destroying your home, your family and your name.

As I read through Proverbs 14 there is so much to glean from and learn. I am in no way perfect and most definitely don't claim to be, but I want to be as close to the woman who is praised and known for her works. The "...wise woman buildeth her house...." How about you?

This book of the law....

Joshua 1:5-9
"Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do accordig to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and thou shalt have good success.
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

As we go through life we need to memorize and keep Gods word close. As sad as it is to think we could be as the Christians of old where they could not have their Bibles because of the government. I do not get into political things generally, but as I have heard that on the West Coast one of the states is trying to out law the Bible. Friend the time here is earth probably is not much longer. However you and I can and NEED to meditate on Gods word, keep his word in our heart. That can not be taken from us.

So as you read the verses I used out of Joshua, make a plan to start this day to memorize more scripture. You say, I have a hard time memorizing. Use three by five cards. Put them above the kitchen sink, at your desk, on the bathroom mirror, on the table by your favorite chair. You can even put them in your car just only read when stopped..... These are just a few places you can put cards with verses on them. With todays technology there is also other ways of having scripture with you at all times.

Just a few thoughts on keeping Gods word in our hearts and minds.

Jeremiah 33:3

God answers prayers!
"Call unto me and I will answer these and shew thee great and mighty things thou knowest not. "

As many of you may know, a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cancer. (I'll not belabor this if you are interested in knowing more about my past year you can go to)
http://youcanmaketodayamazing.blogspot.com

As I enter year two of appointments I want you each to see answered prayers with me.
You can call on God, as I have for a year. He's answered my prayers all the way through. I was diagnosed with cancer for a purpose.

I will answer thee. You know when it comes to answered prayer, it's all in God's timing. Even though I think he's late, He's not.

Shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.  What do you think he'll show you? What type of great things can come out of the fire?

For me they are:
1. It brought my family closer together
2. It brought me closer to God.
3. Prayer life for my family and me increased.
4. Souls saved

Just to give a few. You can use the trial or you can dwell and linger doing nothing. The choice is up to you.

So call upon God in valley/fire or on the Mountain. He hears your plea and wants to do Great and mighty things through you!
