Today's lesson is from Anna on Where Jesus Reveals Himself
Luke 2:38 "And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem."
Read Luke 2:36 - 38
We should be as Anna and have a prayer and fasting time. The reason being is Jesus revealed himself to her. Now not everyone can fast for days and some may only be able to fast for a meal. However God wants to hear from us and fasting is a biblical thing that is taught.
1. Anna was gracious.
Anna means gracious.
Gracious means showing kindness, polite, full of compassion and mercy, refined.
This is something that you and I should pray that God would give us, especially his compassion for others.
2. Anna studied and taught the Bible.
Do you share what you learn from the Bible? As Christians we need to study the Bible and then share what we learn. I'm not meaning going out and forcing people to listen to the scripture. I mean when you and your husband or children are sitting around the table for dinner. Or maybe a friend calls and is discouraged or needs a little help, ask the the Lord to lead you in what to share from your daily walk with him.
3. Anna was a soul winner.
In the Bible we're told Anna told people about Jesus. Shouldn't we being telling others about Jesus. If you church has a weekly time of soul winning you should be going out!
"He that winneth souls is wise."
4. Anna was faithful to prayer and fasting.
I mentioned this in the opening. We need to have a daily prayer time. Then we need to also have a time of fasting. Anna spent days and days praying an fasting, she was a widow so she was able to do this. Ladies, you can also pray, we are told in the Bible to "pray without ceasing." It doesn't mean to constantly pray but to be in prayer if you think of someone God has brought that person to mind and you should say a prayer for them.
5. Anna praised the Lord.
In Psalms we read in chapter after chapter of how we should praise the Lord. When you go to the Lord in prayer be sure to praise him in prayer.
6. Anna built her life around the church.
In the Bible we see people who built their lives around the church. This is pretty much how Christians are today. We raise our children in church, in youth group, involved in all they can that is church related. Dr Lee Roberson use to say, "It takes 3 to Thrive" Sunday morning, Sunday Night and Wednesday Night. i grew up, and my children are growing up with that same thought. Every time the doors open for a service if physically possible we are there!
Dear Lady, You can be an Anna! You can do as she did being a meek and quiet lady who simply did what was required of her. You too can do that.
As the Lord to show himself to you through your marriage, child rearing, and also in every aspect of your life.
