Proverbs 13:24 "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."
Today was one of those days, that I'm thinking if I don't apply the board of Education then we're really going to regret it later in life. I don't usually have to discipline my oldest 2 boys often. One of them decided that arguing with mom would be appropriate and that he could even yell at me. Now wait a minute....
The Bible teaches that we are not to spare the rod. In the world today they say we're making murders, and thief's of our children if we spank. Well, I grew up with getting my share of spankings and I didn't turn out bad. I will say there's a difference in abuse and discipline. If you slap your children, kick them, or otherwise hurt them when in anger, then yes it could and in most cases is ABUSE. The hinder most part known as your rear was made to be spanked. The Lord knew we as sinners would need a form of discipline, NOT abuse.
I love Proverbs in the way it teaches that, Children should obey their parents in the Lord. It teaches that receiving instruction is wise. It tells us in other places good men obtain favour with God. One of the scriptures is Proverbs 12:1-2 "Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn."
Here if we raise our children in church, in the Bible and prayer they will learn to LOVE instruction. They will realize that we aren't being mean parents but that we are trying to protect them, to rear them in the Lord.
Proverbs 1:7 it says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Our children will despise correction if not applied properly. If you're a new parent please read the Bible learn the proper ways to discipline. To those who've been raising children make sure you're doing it the Biblical way.
